Description

Explores the culture and issues of immigrant labor and the issues of the US-Mexican border. Spend time at the Casa Del Migrante in Tijuana run by the Scalarbini Fathers where immigrant residents are housed who are either seeking to come to the US or those who have been expelled from the US for various reasons. A few days are also spent at San Juan Bosco, a home for boys in Tecate, which is just inside the Mexican border. Considerable time is also spent in San Diego where the class will encounter various ministries doing immigration work on the US side, including ELCA churches. Rev. George Johnson coordinates this project along with other faculty members who provide theological, ethical, and missiological dimensions of immigration and justice questions. Each student is responsible for roundtrip travel to San Diego. Registration and a $100 non-refundable deposit are required.
